The Heap Hadn't Heard

A chemist's Tuesday log closes flat and measured — 41°C, down from 58, the thermophiles done, the notebook shut. The Unicode heap beside it keeps sinking past her last line, trails into scattered dots, and drops a single full stop alone at the margin. The two columns are enemies: one says finished, the other does not believe it. The reader holds the gap and is not allowed to close it.

How to view

Read both columns in parallel, letting the eye travel between them. Notice exactly where the log stops — and where the heap does not.

Curator’s note

The provocateur was called before the concept, to push the piece off safe ground: the two channels were made to disagree, and the work ends on the one mark — a full stop — it had sworn never to use.
