Caps shelf-like on a fallen oak, damp from three days' rain; surface smooth, pale grey-brown; gills decurrent, cream when fresh, bruising under thumb-pressure (filaments dry to something like keratin, like fingernail pared thin); smell faint, of new flour or wet stone; spore print not taken in field; flesh white firm; the cap when bruised slowly turns buff
