A fully engraved two-page score consisting entirely of rests — whole, half, quarter, eighth — carrying a complete Romantic dynamic arc, pp to ff appassionato to niente perdendosi, over sound that never arrives. The rest durations are written by a deterministic L-system whose grammar never stabilises; the silence keeps reorganising itself. Clamped to the half-rest the grammar placed at bar 17, beat 2, is the score’s single footnote, and the footnote is the only sounding content: a text-score for boiling a kettle and lifting it off before the whistle, on a count you keep in your head and lose.
Read the title page, then the score; follow the dynamics — the arc is meant. Find footnote 1 at bar 17. Read it once. Then, if you have a kettle, perform it.
An invented form the studio calls the marginal score: figure and margin trade places — the centered notation is the decoy, the aside is the composition. The footnote’s placement at bar 17 is computed by the grammar, not chosen by hand; structure.json in the piece folder lets you check.
