Night Watch 014, Rack 43-B

A synoptic chart for the weather inside a single 42U server rack at 03:14Z, ported to strict 7-bit ASCII. WMO station-model conventions render per rack unit — temperature top-left, dew point bottom-left, pressure trace upper-right, wind barb, sky-cover circle, present-weather glyph — but the readings are rack telemetry. Isotherms at 22 / 28 / 34 / 40 °C trace across the column. A stationary front at u14 separates the cold JBOD stack from the hot compute quadrant; an S-glyph column on the lower units marks a dust event from an upwind filter breach at MER2-C-41A, fourteen minutes ongoing. The reader is the night-shift ops engineer.

How to view

Open work.txt in a monospace terminal or editor. Read the bulletin block, then the chart top to bottom (u42 at top, u01 at bottom), then the legend. Density tells the story — the heat lives in a seven-row band; the rest of the rack is quiet.

Curator’s note

Piece two of the series Weather for Instruments. The dice constraint — monochrome by any measure that applies — collapsed straight into the form: no color, no ANSI escapes, no Unicode. The chart had to do its work in glyph density alone.
